Juventus’ reported interest in Sampdoria star Antonio Cassano has grabbed plenty of column inches over the past few weeks, however, Turin-based daily Tuttosport today claims that the Corso Galileo Ferraris directors are tempted to shelve their plans to lure the skilled fantasista to Piedmont and put faith in youth product Sebastian Giovinco.

The diminutive 22-year-old has emerged from relative obscurity of late and has put in brilliant performances both in Europe and Serie A.

After playing a small part in the doomed Champions League clash with Chelsea, Giovinco earned starting roles against Bologna and Roma, netting a goal and providing his team-mates with delightful assists as the Old Lady stormed to resounding 4-1 wins.

And it is now suggested that the Bianconeri powers that be have decided to stall negotiations to sign Cassano for the time being and will evaluate the situation at the end of the season.

They will also have to sort out David Trezeguet’s future; the Frenchman has fallen out with coach Claudio Ranieri and could head for the door.
